The Austrian Mint captures this mysterious world with a 2023 cupro-nickel three-euro coin dedicated to the deep-sea anglerfish. This issue is part of a larger numismatic series aligned with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, highlighting the critical importance of our oceans. The reverse side of the coin features the anglerfish itself, but its true nature is only revealed in darkness. When exposed to ultraviolet light, special hidden details and vibrant colors glow, mimicking the natural bioluminescence of this fascinating predator. The obverse design unites the entire series, displaying a circular arrangement of twelve distinct marine animal silhouettes amidst rising air bubbles, alongside a tail fin slipping beneath the water's surface. Struck in a base metal alloy of copper and nickel, this uncirculated coin carries a face value of 3 Euros. The design also incorporates depth markers on the surface, from 300m to 600m, hinting at the extreme aquatic zones where these incredible creatures dwell.
