2023 Canada 50-Cent Lenticular Holiday Sledding
This 2023 Canadian 50-cent coin captures the spirit of winter play through an innovative, motion-filled design. Struck in a brilliant uncirculated finish, the coin is composed of either cupronickel or nickel-plated steel. It carries the official backing of the Canadian government, representing a delightful fusion of modern minting technology and seasonal celebration. The reverse side, designed by artist Darren Booth, features an active winter scene showcasing a polar bear and an arctic hare sledding. By utilizing lenticular technology, the design creates a shifting illusion of movement as the coin is tilted, making the snowy adventure appear to come alive. On the obverse, the coin features the classic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt. This side also includes a special tribute marking her historic reign, displaying a double date of 1952 and 2022 alongside four pearls that represent the four different effigies of the Queen that have graced Canadian coinage over the decades.
