2023 Mexico 1/4 oz Gold Libertad BU
The 2023 Gold Libertad stands as a brilliant example of modern coining, carrying forward a legacy that began when the quarter-ounce gold weight was first introduced to this series in 1981. Struck in Mexico City at La Casa de Moneda de Mexico, the oldest operating mint in the Americas founded in 1535, this piece contains a quarter ounce of 0.999 fine gold. Its production is fully backed by the central bank, Banco de México. One side of the coin displays the Mexican national seal, showing an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak, encircled by the words ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The other side presents a breathtaking artistic scene featuring the Winged Victory statue, which represents independence. In the distance behind her, the silhouettes of two famous Mexican volcanic peaks, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, rise into the sky. The inscriptions on this face note the year 2023, the metal purity of LEY 0.999, and the weight of 1/4 ONZA ORO PURO, alongside the historic Mo mint mark.
