The 2023 edition marks the forty-second annual release of Mexico's premier silver bullion coin, a series that first captured the attention of the world in 1982. Struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, this brilliant uncirculated piece is produced by La Casa de Moneda de México. Established as the very first mint in the Americas, this historic institution's work is fully backed and guaranteed by the Banco de México. On the obverse side, a central sculptural relief displays the modern Mexican national shield, encircled by the inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". This central emblem is surrounded by ten historical variations of the country's coat of arms, tracing a visual lineage of Mexican identity through the centuries. The reverse side highlights the Winged Victory statue, depicted in a three-quarter side profile that has been the signature look of the series since 1996. Prior to that year, from 1982 to 1995, a different representation of the angel was utilized. In the background of the modern design, the majestic volcanic peaks of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rise up, creating a dramatic and culturally rich landscape that makes this coin a true masterpiece of modern minting.
