In 2023, a classic piece of maritime numismatic history was brought back to life. This modern release is an official restrike of the famous Utrecht Ship Shilling originally minted in 1768. Struck from two ounces of 0.999 fine silver, this proof-quality coin pays homage to a historic Dutch currency type first introduced in 1670. Known as the schelling, this denomination carried a face value of six stuivers (equivalent to five-cent pieces) and served as a crucial tool for global trade, circulating far beyond the borders of the Netherlands. The obverse of the coin features a detailed warship under sail, complete with a flag flying from its stern. Accompanying this nautical imagery is the Latin inscription "ITA. RELINQUENDA. UT. ACCEPTA." On the reverse, the design showcases the provincial coat of arms of Zeeland, surrounded by the Latin legend "MON. NOV. ARGEN. ORDIN. ZELAND." This modern tribute was produced under the authority of the Royal Dutch Mint, an institution owned by the Dutch State, with its traditional minting seat located in the historic city of Utrecht.
