The 2024 American Gold Eagle represents a continuation of a premier American coinage tradition. Authorized by Congress in 1986, this series holds a special place in United States numismatic history as the first gold coin program issued by the federal government specifically for investment purposes. Each coin contains one troy ounce of gold, blended with silver and copper to ensure the metal is durable enough to resist wear and tear. Backed by the United States Mint, these coins are struck with a purity of 0.9167 gold. On the obverse, the design presents a modern adaptation of the historic Gold Double Eagle, showcasing Lady Liberty as she strides forward carrying a lit torch and an olive branch. The reverse features a highly detailed, close-up portrait of a bald eagle, a design created by Jennie Norris. This particular specimen has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 (MS-70) condition, representing the highest possible grade for a modern coin. Inscriptions on the coin include the year 2024, the United States of America as the issuing nation, the traditional mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the face value of 50 Dollars. While the one-ounce version is a cornerstone of the series, the United States Mint also produces these gold coins in fractional sizes of 1/10, 1/4, and 1/2 ounce.
