The 2024 Gold Buffalo stands as a striking tribute to early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck by the United States Mint, this modern issue contains one troy ounce of exceptionally pure gold, refined to a fineness of 0.9999. Backed by the United States government for its weight and purity, the coin carries a face value of 50 dollars and has been certified in outstanding Mint State 69 condition. Its design draws direct inspiration from the legendary 1913 Buffalo Nickel, originally created by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The front of the coin displays a powerful right-facing profile of a Native American chieftain, accompanied by the inscription LIBERTY and the 2024 date. Fraser's initial, F, is also visible beneath the year. The reverse side features a magnificent American bison, modeled after Black Diamond, a famous resident of the Central Park Zoo in New York during the early 1900s. The massive animal stands on a grassy mound, surrounded by traditional inscriptions including UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The bottom of the design clearly states the weight, purity, and denomination as 1 OZ. 0.9999 FINE GOLD and $50, completing a visual legacy that began when the modern series first debuted in 2006.
