This innovative 2024 Austrian cupro-nickel coin plunges deep into the ocean to celebrate the fascinating creatures of the sea. As part of the Luminous Marine Life series, this three-euro piece highlights the Hawaiian bobtail squid in its natural habitat, surrounded by a sea snail and delicate coral. The entire scene is viewed through a charming porthole frame, giving the impression of looking out from a submarine. On the other side, the coin displays a collective tribute to the ocean, featuring the silhouettes of twelve different marine animals swimming amidst rising air bubbles, completed by a disappearing tail fin. The Austrian Mint produced 65,000 of these brilliant uncirculated pieces. The true magic of this coin is revealed in the dark. Under ultraviolet light, a special feature allows the doctorfish on the coin to glow in shades of green and bluish light, bringing the underwater world to life in a spectacular visual display.
