The Chinese Gold Panda series has captivated collectors since its debut in 1982, celebrated for its nearly annual tradition of updating the reverse artwork. The only exception to this yearly design transformation occurred in 2002. In 2016, the series underwent a major transition by adopting the metric system, which saw the traditional one ounce weight replaced by this 30 gram format. Minted with 0.999 fine gold, this 2024 edition continues a legacy of exquisite metalwork and cultural storytelling. On the obverse, the coin displays the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a famous landmark located in Beijing. This architectural marvel is framed by Chinese characters translating to the People's Republic of China, alongside the 2024 year of issue. The reverse features a tender wildlife scene showing an adult panda alongside its young cub. This side also displays the face value of 500 Yuan and the metal specifications, which read as 30g Au 0.999. These coins are produced across various minting facilities in China, including locations in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Shenyang. Unlike many global mints, Chinese facilities generally do not stamp mint marks on their coinage, though rare exceptions exist, such as the letters Y or S seen in 1987. Instead, subtle variations in font size, date placement, or design details sometimes distinguish the work of one facility from another.
