This impressive five-ounce silver coin from the Monnaie de Paris celebrates a monumental moment in French heritage: the restoration and reopening of the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. Struck in 0.950 fine silver, this piece belongs to the prestigious French Excellence Series, with a highly restricted mintage of only 250 pieces worldwide. Through its detailed design, the coin captures both the physical structure of the cathedral and the human dedication required to restore it. The obverse side presents a striking visual metaphor of recovery. It depicts the cathedral behind a network of scaffolding, with the words meaning "Rebuilding Notre-Dame" integrated across different levels of the structure. Framing this scene is a pointed arch bay adorned with quatrefoils, a direct nod to classic Gothic architecture and the famous stained-glass windows of the cathedral. The year 2024 and the letters RF are also visible on this side. On the reverse, the design takes the viewer inside the cathedral's nave, showcasing the newly installed liturgical furnishings beneath the soaring vaulted ceiling. At the very top, the intricate wooden framework of Notre-Dame is visible. Artist Arthur Bonifay designed the illustrations on this side, which depict the diverse craftsmen and women working on the reconstruction, honoring the collective human effort behind the restoration. This side also displays the 50 Euro face value and marks the historic year of the cathedral's reopening.
