2024 Netherlands 1 oz Silver Proof Ship Shilling (w/Box & COA)
The 2024 silver proof restrike brings a classic piece of Dutch maritime heritage back to life. This modern release is a faithful recreation of the 1706 Utrecht Scheepjes-Schelling, a coin type that played a vital role in global commerce. Struck in one ounce of 0.999 fine silver, this issue has a very limited global release of only 750 pieces. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed warship sailing with a flag flying from its stern. Accompanying this nautical scene is the Latin inscription "ITA. RELINQUENDA. UT. ACCEPTA." On the reverse, the coin features the official coat of arms of Zeeland, surrounded by the Latin phrase "MON. NOV. ARGEN. ORDIN. ZELAND." which translates to "New Silver Coin of Zeeland." Originally introduced to replace lower-quality currency varieties, the "Ship Shilling" first appeared in 1670 and became a trusted medium for international transactions. This modern tribute is authorized and struck by the Royal Dutch Mint, the sole institution permitted to produce Dutch coinage, which is fully owned by the Dutch State.
