Known historically as the Scheepjes-Schelling, this coin type first entered circulation in 1670. With a nominal value of six stuivers, these coins were primarily utilized for international trade rather than domestic transactions. This modern tribute is struck in two ounces of 0.999 fine silver, carrying on the legacy of the national mint seat in Utrecht, which was later renamed the Rijks Munt after 1813. Today, the Royal Dutch Mint remains guaranteed by the Dutch State. The obverse of the coin showcases a detailed warship under sail, complete with a flag flying from its stern.
