2024-P American Innovation $1 DC Defibrillator BU (Maine)
The American Innovation dollar series celebrates significant creative achievements from each state in the order they joined the Union. This 2024 issue, struck at the Philadelphia Mint in brilliant uncirculated condition, highlights the state of Maine by honoring a monumental medical breakthrough. The coin features a composition of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. On the reverse side, the design portrays Dr. Bernard Lown alongside a direct current defibrillator in active operation. This medical device revolutionized emergency cardiac care and saved countless lives. The inscriptions on this side clearly identify the inventor as "BERNARD LOWN, M.D." and label the invention as "DIRECT CURRENT DEFIBRILLATOR", alongside the state name "MAINE" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The obverse presents a profile of the Statue of Liberty, accompanied by the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the face value of "$1". A small, stylized gear privy mark is also visible on this side, symbolizing the spirit of industry and human ingenuity. Along the edge of the coin, the year "2024", the "P" mint mark, and the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are incused, keeping the main faces clean and focused on the artwork.
