Struck in a quarter ounce of pure gold, this 2025 French coin commemorates the historic clash at Austerlitz on December 2, 1805. The confrontation, where Napoleon Bonaparte secured a decisive triumph over the combined forces of Russia and Austria, is widely remembered as a supreme demonstration of tactical brilliance during the First French Empire. Certified by the Monnaie de Paris, this issue is limited to a mintage of only 500 pieces. The obverse design captures the tension and drama of the conflict. It portrays the opposing leaders, Emperor Alexander I of Russia alongside Francis I and II of Austria, facing Napoleon as he rides across the battlefield at first light. Below them, the ranks of the French legions are shown marching forward. For the reverse, designers drew inspiration from a historic medal created in 1806 to celebrate the victory. It showcases a winged scepter crowned with a miniature figure of Charlemagne, flanked by striking bolts of lightning.
