The 2025 American Gold Buffalo represents a continuation of the first 24-karat gold coin series ever produced by the United States Mint. First introduced in 2006, this modern release contains one troy ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold and carries a legal tender face value of 50 dollars, backed fully by the United States government. The coin is presented in brilliant uncirculated condition, showcasing the exquisite details of its historic artwork. Both sides of the coin feature celebrated designs created by James Earle Fraser, which originally debuted on the 1913 Buffalo Nickel. The obverse displays a powerful composite portrait of a Native American chief, created by combining the features of three different individuals. The word LIBERTY is inscribed on this side. The reverse features a majestic American buffalo, which was modeled after Black Diamond, a famous bison from the Central Park Zoo. This side also displays the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1 OZ. 0.9999 FINE GOLD $50.
