Crafted from 0.7214 ounces of 0.999 fine silver, the proof-finish piece serves as a tribute to the end of a conflict that gripped the world for nearly six years. With a limited mintage of just 1,945 pieces, the coin connects modern observers to the monumental events of 1945. The front of the coin focuses on a single American officer from the 1st Infantry Division. Having survived the landings at Omaha Beach, this soldier fought across Normandy, through Germany, and into Czechoslovakia. On the coin, he is depicted holding his rifle while making a peace sign, set against a backdrop of the American flag and his fellow servicemen. This powerful imagery captures both the relief of victory and the immense cost of the campaign. On the other side, the design honors the international coalition that participated in the Normandy landings. The names of these Allied nations, including France, Libre, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Australia, USA, Norway, UK, Czechoslovakia, Canada, and Belgium, encircle the central design.
