Minted from one troy ounce of 0.9999 pure gold, the piece marks the 175th anniversary of the country's initial gold rush, which began when Edward Hargraves located gold at Ophir in 1851. With a highly restricted mintage of just 175 pieces worldwide, this coin is a rare tribute to the events that reshaped a nation. The reverse side of the coin features an intricate, symbolic landscape depicting the rugged reality of early mining life. A map of Australia highlights the location of Ophir, surrounded by the essential tools of the prospector's trade: a crossed shovel and pickaxe, a lantern, a wheelbarrow, a tent, a bucket, and a cradle box. A hand panning for gold is also visible against the wild terrain. The inscriptions "175" and "AUSTRALIA'S FIRST GOLD RUSH" are clearly displayed alongside the traditional 'P' mint mark of the Perth Mint.
