Struck from 90% pure gold, this coin contains 0.1451 troy ounces of precious metal. These intriguing coins were produced at several different federal mint facilities, including those located in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Dahlonega, and San Francisco. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed profile of an Indian Princess with her hair styled in tight curls. On the reverse, the design showcases a decorative wreath surrounding the denomination of 3 Dollars and the specific year of issue. Because many of these gold pieces were melted down in later years, the number of surviving specimens is significantly limited.
