$3 Gold Princess MS-61 NGC/PCGS

0.1451 troy oz .900 MS-61 (PCGS &/or NGC)

The three-dollar gold piece stands as one of the most unusual denominations ever produced by the United States Mint. This certified Mint State 61 example highlights a distinctive chapter in American coinage, showcasing a design that departed from more common circulating denominations. Over the course of its production, these coins were struck at several historic minting facilities, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Dahlonega, and San Francisco. The front of the coin displays a detailed profile of a Native American princess, while the back features a decorative wreath encircling the face value and the specific year of manufacture. Each coin is composed of 90 percent pure gold, containing 0.1451 troy ounces of precious metal. Because a vast number of these issues were melted down in later years, surviving specimens in certified mint condition offer a rare glimpse into nineteenth-century monetary history.
