Over the years, vast quantities of these coins were melted down, which significantly decreased the number of surviving specimens available for study today. The obverse of the coin features a detailed depiction of an Indian Princess wearing a stylized headdress. On the reverse, a decorative wreath encircles the central area, which displays both the three-dollar denomination and the specific year of issue. These coins were produced by the United States Mint at various historic facilities, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Dahlonega.
