$5 Indian Gold Half Eagle AU (Random Year)
The United States five dollar gold piece, struck between 1908 and 1929, represents a radical departure from traditional coin minting. Unlike typical coins with raised features, this gold half eagle utilizes an incuse design, meaning the details are sunken directly into the flat surface. This unusual technique gives the coin a distinctively flat profile while protecting its intricate artwork from wear. On the front of the coin, a Native American figure wearing a traditional feathered headdress is shown in profile. This central portrait is encircled by thirteen stars, with the word Liberty placed along the top edge and the year of issue positioned at the bottom. The artist Bela Lyon Pratt created this striking image, which was produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, or San Francisco facilities of the United States Mint. The reverse side of the coin displays a proud bald eagle standing amidst classic American mottos. The phrases In God We Trust and E Pluribus Unum are clearly visible alongside the issuing nation, United States of America, and the face value of Five Dollars. Each coin is struck from 90 percent pure gold, containing 0.2419 troy ounces of precious metal, and survives today in Almost Uncirculated condition.
