5 oz Silver Antique Round - Hobo Nickel (Trains)
This five-ounce silver round serves as the third release in the 2017 Hobo Nickel series, paying homage to a unique form of American folk art. Historically, transient individuals carved new imagery into circulating coinage, favoring the Buffalo nickel introduced in 1913. The large canvas of the original Native American profile on that coin allowed these self-taught artists to craft intricate, personalized designs on a highly malleable medium. Crafted from 0.999 fine silver with an antique finish, this round features a design by Steve Adams, also known as Mr. Chips. The front of the round, titled 'Running from Change', captures a dramatic scene of a traveler fleeing a powerful Art Deco locomotive. The reverse side depicts the mythological figure Atlas supporting the weight of the nomadic lifestyle, surrounded by traditional symbols used by travelers to communicate with one another. Each of these rounds features a unique serial number stamped alongside its weight and purity inscriptions.
