Struck by the United States Mint at its West Point facility in New York, this legal tender coin contains one troy ounce of fine gold. Its presence is both substantial and visually arresting, representing a continuation of America's rich minting tradition. On the obverse, the coin displays a classic representation of Lady Liberty. This design is adapted from the famous early twentieth-century work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty is depicted in a forward stride, holding an olive branch in one hand and a raised torch in the other, symbolizing peace and enlightenment. The year 2011 is clearly inscribed alongside this iconic figure. The reverse, created by Miley Busiek, presents a detailed scene of a bald eagle family. A male eagle is shown in mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle and their young await. This side of the coin also features the traditional mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM", along with inscriptions denoting the country of origin, the gold content, and the fifty-dollar face value.
