Originally introduced under the rule of Darius the Great of Persia, these pieces circulated widely from 522 BC until 330 BC. The coin weighs 8.37 grams and measures 14 millimeters in diameter, containing 0.2100 troy ounces of gold. The obverse of the coin features a striking depiction of a kneeling king or heroic figure, captured in mid-stride while holding both a bow and a spear.
