Achaemenid Gold AV Daric (circa 5th Century BC) VG NGC (3/4)
Introduced during the rule of Darius the Great, the gold daric stands as a legendary medium of exchange from the ancient Achaemenid Empire. These substantial gold pieces began circulating between 522 BC and 486 BC, remaining a dominant currency in the ancient world until around 330 BC. Weighing approximately 8.3 grams, each coin represents a direct link to the vast administration of one of history's greatest early empires. The design of the daric is both simple and powerful. On the obverse, a kneeling figure representing a king or a heroic warrior is depicted holding a bow and a spear, capturing the martial spirit of the dynasty. The reverse is minimalist, featuring a deep, oblong incuse punch mark left by the minting process. This particular specimen has survived the millennia and has been certified as being in Very Good condition.
