In the ancient Mediterranean world, small-scale commerce relied on tiny, beautifully crafted silver coins known as obols. Minted between the fifth and second centuries BC, these diminutive pieces of currency circulated throughout the Greek world, from the bustling ports of Ionia and Mysia to the militaristic city-state of Lakonia.
