0.0000 troy oz 196-146 BC Very Fine

Dating back to the period from 196 to 146 BC, this bronze unit represents the coinage of the ancient Thessalian League in Greece. Measuring between 16.5 and 20.5 millimeters in diameter, the coin serves as a compact canvas for two powerful classical depictions, surviving today in Very Fine condition. The front of the coin features the laureate head of Apollo, the god of music, truth, and prophecy, shown in profile facing right. On the reverse side, the warrior goddess Athena Itonia is captured in a dynamic stance, advancing toward the right while wielding a javelin and holding her protective shield.
