In the ancient southern region of the Arabian Peninsula, known historically as Arabia Felix, the Himyarites produced fascinating silver coinage. This particular silver fraction, dating to approximately the first century AD, offers a window into the artistic exchanges of the ancient world. The coin's design is heavily inspired by classical Greek motifs, showcasing the deep reach of Hellenistic influence across trade routes. On the obverse side, a right-facing portrait of Athena wearing a helmet is framed by a delicate border of pellets. The reverse side depicts an owl, the traditional companion of Athena, standing atop an amphora. A decorative wreath encircles this central reverse image. This specific specimen has been preserved well enough to receive a Choice Very Fine grading, highlighting the enduring details of this ancient silver piece.
