Dating back to approximately the first century AD, this silver coin is a fascinating relic from the ancient region of Arabia Felix. Believed to have Sabaean origins, the small silver fraction showcases a striking blend of cultural influences, carrying imagery deeply rooted in classical antiquity. The obverse side of the coin features the right-facing profile of a helmeted Athena. This depiction of the ancient goddess of wisdom is framed by a delicate border of pellets, adding a structured elegance to the portrait. On the reverse, the design transitions to Athena's famous companion. An owl stands proudly in the center, positioned directly on top of an amphora. A detailed wreath encircles this central scene, completing a design that echoes classic Mediterranean motifs. This particular specimen has been preserved in Choice Extra Fine condition, offering a remarkably clear look at the artistry of the ancient Himyarite world.
