During the era of the Crusades, the Kingdom of Armenia produced distinctive silver coinage that reflected its royal authority and religious identity. This silver tram, minted between 1198 and 1219, offers a fascinating window into the medieval Caucasus. Weighing approximately 0.1200 troy ounces, the coin serves as a tangible survivor from the reign of King Levon I. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed depiction of Levon I. He is shown wearing a crown and sitting upon his royal throne, flanked on either side by lions. This regal imagery projects the power and sovereignty of the Armenian monarch during a turbulent period of regional conflict. On the reverse, the design features an orthodox cross positioned between two standing lions. The dual-lion motif on both sides of the coin highlights the symbolic importance of these beasts in the royal iconography of the period.
