The front of the coin showcases the right-facing profile of Athena, the patron goddess of Athens, adorned in an ornate, crested Attic helmet. Accompanying the owl are a small olive sprig, a crescent moon, and the Greek letters alpha, theta, and epsilon, which represent the city of Athens.
