Attica, Athens AR Tetradrachm Owl (440-404 BC) w/ Sterling Bezel

0.7030 troy oz 440-404 BC Genuine

Dating back to the golden age of Athens between 440 and 404 BC, this silver tetradrachm represents one of the most recognizable coinages of the ancient world. The obverse features the profile of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare, looking toward the right. She is depicted wearing a classic crested Attic helmet, which is intricately decorated with olive leaves and a palmette, complemented by a round earring. The reverse of the coin displays Athens' famous symbol, the owl, standing three-quarters to the right with its head turned to face the viewer directly. Tucked behind the owl is a small olive sprig and a crescent moon, all set within an incuse square. The classic Greek inscription A O E is clearly visible alongside the owl. This historical silver piece is secured within a protective bezel crafted from sterling silver.
