Bicentennial Medal of 13 States (.500 Fine)

0.0434 troy oz .500

Created to mark the two hundredth anniversary of the United States, this gold medal represents a collaborative commemorative effort. The Bicentennial Council of the Thirteen Original States authorized its release, and the Franklin Mint produced the piece as a limited edition proof striking. Because it was created as a commemorative medal rather than circulating currency, it does not carry a face value and is not legal tender. Crafted with a gold purity of 0.500 fine, the medal contains 0.0434 troy ounces of precious metal. The detailed design elements on both sides reflect the historic milestone of the American founding. On the obverse, a circular wreath frames a cluster of thirteen stars, surrounded by an inscription identifying the council of the original thirteen states. The reverse side features an eagle alongside the inscriptions for the United States of America and the dual years of 1776 and 1976.
