Struck during the seventh century, this gold solidus offers a fascinating glimpse into the imperial court of the Byzantine Empire. The coin weighs 4.40 grams and measures approximately 20 mm in diameter, serving as a remarkably preserved artifact from an era of profound transformation in the Mediterranean world. The obverse of the solidus features a dual portrait showing the Emperor Heraclius alongside Heraclius Constantine, depicted here as a young child. Both figures face forward, accompanied by a small cross positioned in the field above them. This design visually reinforced the dynastic succession and shared authority of the era. On the reverse, a prominent Cross Potent stands atop a series of steps, a classic symbol of the Christian empire. Surrounding this central image is the Latin inscription VICTORIA AVG, celebrating the imperial victory.
