Byzantine Empire AE Follis Maurice Tiberius (582-602 AD) F NGC
Struck during the late sixth century, this bronze AE follis offers a direct connection to the administration of the Byzantine Empire under the rule of Maurice Tiberius, who reigned from 582 to 602 AD. Weighing 11.9 grams, the copper piece serves as a tangible artifact of early medieval commerce and monetary systems. The obverse side of the coin features a depiction of the emperor himself. Maurice Tiberius is shown wearing his official imperial crown and dressed in the traditional robes of a chief priest. In his hand, he holds a globus cruciger, a powerful symbol of authority and faith during the era. On the reverse, the coin displays its denomination as the central feature. Below this central mark, the name of the minting city is inscribed, while the right side of the field is dedicated to indicating the specific tax year of issue. This particular specimen has survived the centuries and is certified in Fine condition.
