Issued with a face value of 50 Dollars, each of these sovereign coins contains one troy ounce of highly refined 0.9995 pure platinum, backed fully by the government of Canada. On the reverse, the coin showcases the iconic single maple leaf, a symbol recognized worldwide. This side also denotes the weight and purity of the precious metal. To protect the integrity of these pieces, the Royal Canadian Mint utilizes its proprietary Bullion DNA technology, a security system established in 2015. For example, issues from 2023 feature a textured security privy mark containing micro-engraved digits representing the year of issue. This tiny engraving is scanned and registered in a secure database to verify the authenticity of the coin. The obverse of the coin offers a fascinating look at royal transition. Depending on the year of issue, the portrait varies. Pieces minted before 2024 display the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II alongside the year and face value. Starting in 2024, the obverse transitioned to feature the portrait of King Charles III, designed by artist Steven Rosati.
