Celtic Gaul AR Quinarius (1st Century BC) VF (Gallic Wars)

0.0800 troy oz 1 St Century BC Very Fine

Dating back more than two millennia, this silver quinarius offers a physical connection to the ancient world of Celtic Gaul. Circulating during the turbulent era of the Gallic Wars, these small silver pieces were produced by various Celtic tribes, including the Aedui and the Sequani. Weighing between 1.9 and 2.0 grams, each coin represents a fascinating blend of local Celtic artistry and classical Mediterranean influence. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing head of Roma wearing a helmet, a design element adapted from Roman coinage of the period. On the reverse, the imagery shifts to a distinctly Celtic aesthetic, featuring a large, stylized horse with disjointed features. This striking piece of ancient currency has survived in Very Fine condition, preserving the bold, abstract artistry of the Gaulish tribes.
