During the third to second centuries BC, Celtic tribes along the Danube created their own remarkable coinage inspired by the famous issues of the Macedonian Empire. This silver tetradrachm is an intriguing example of such ancient imitation, modeled after the coinage of Philip III. Despite its age, this specimen survives in an exceptional state of preservation, certified as Almost Uncirculated. The obverse of the coin features a powerful right-facing bust of the legendary hero Heracles, draped in his characteristic lion skin headpiece. This classic imagery was widely recognized across the ancient world, serving as a symbol of strength and authority that the Danubian Celts adapted for their own currency. On the reverse, the design depicts the god Zeus seated on a throne, facing left. In his hands, he holds his traditional symbols of power: a scepter and a perched eagle.
