In the ancient Greek world, the city of Corinth minted some of the most recognizable and widely accepted silver coinage of the Mediterranean. Struck between 345 and 307 BC, this silver stater weighs approximately 8.5 grams (containing about 0.2750 troy ounces of precious metal) and has survived the centuries in Choice Almost Uncirculated condition. The obverse of this ancient coin features the legendary winged horse, Pegasus, captured mid-flight as he glides toward the left. This iconic image of Corinthian identity is complemented on the reverse by a left-facing profile of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, depicted wearing her classic Corinthian helmet. Positioned just behind her head is a small, detailed depiction of Zeus holding a thunderbolt, adding a layer of mythological depth to this remarkable piece of ancient artistry.
