0.0700 troy oz 408-450 AD Extra Fine

During the fifth century, the Eastern Roman Empire operated a bustling mint in its capital city of Constantinople. Between the years 408 and 450 AD, this facility produced elegant silver coins known as siliquae. One surviving specimen, preserved in Extra Fine condition, offers a direct connection to the reign of Emperor Theodosius II. The obverse of this silver piece features a detailed right-facing bust of Emperor Theodosius II. On the reverse side, a classic wreath encircles a central inscription, a design characteristic of the era's imperial coinage. Cataloged by numismatists as RIC 385, this coin contains approximately 0.0700 troy ounces of silver, serving as a fascinating physical artifact from the twilight of the ancient world.
