During the second and first centuries BC, the bustling port of Massalia, known today as Marseille, served as a vital commercial hub in Western Europe. Established by Phocaean pioneers, this Greek colony minted silver drachms that bridged distinct cultural spheres. These coins circulated extensively throughout Gaul, acting as a monetary bridge between the Greek world and neighboring Celtic societies. The obverse of this silver issue features the right-facing profile of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath, with her bow and quiver positioned over her shoulder.
