The British Gold Sovereign represents a monumental chapter in numismatic history, originating as a key component of the Great Recoinage of 1816. Introduced to replace the gold guinea, this coin was valued at exactly 20 shillings. Minting of the modern series commenced in 1817, establishing a standard of currency that would circulate across the globe. These historic pieces were struck at The Royal Mint as well as various other commonwealth mints. The obverse of the coin features the bust of Queen Victoria, who reigned during the height of the British Empire.
