Dating back to the medieval period in India, this copper coin represents the rich heritage of the Hindu Kashmir Dynasty. Known as a Traam, which corresponds to a drachma or stater, this coinage circulated between 950 and 1155 AD. It offers a tangible connection to the artistic and political traditions of the region during this vibrant historical era. The obverse side of the coin features a depiction of a seated female deity, identified as Lakshmi or Ardoksho. This representation of the goddess of prosperity and abundance was a common and powerful image in the region's currency. On the reverse, the design depicts a standing monarch engaged in a ritual sacrifice at an altar, showcasing the sacred duties and spiritual authority associated with medieval kingship. This example survives in a well-preserved state, graded as Very Fine to Extra Fine.
