During the fourteenth century, the Kingdom of Hungary produced small but intriguing silver coins known as denars. This particular specimen, minted during the reign of Ludwig I, also known as Louis I, from 1342 to 1382, offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval artistry. Measuring just 14 millimeters in diameter and weighing a delicate 0.4 grams, the coin showcases the intricate craftsmanship possible on such a tiny silver canvas. The obverse of the coin features a striking and unusual design element: a Saracen head. Surrounding this central image is the legible inscription MONETA LE*DVIGI, which identifies the coinage of the ruler.
