Illyria, Apollonia AR Drachm (2nd-1st Cent. BC) Fine NGC
Struck between the second and first centuries BC, this silver drachm originates from Apollonia, an ancient Illyrian Greek city established around 600 BC. Measuring 18 millimeters in diameter and weighing 3.3 grams, this ancient coin represents a fascinating chapter in early Greek economic history. The obverse side of the coin features a detailed depiction of a cow standing and facing right, turning its head back toward a calf. This pastoral imagery is contrasted on the reverse, which displays a double stellate pattern enclosed within a square, surrounded by the name of a local magistrate. This particular specimen has been certified as Fine by grading specialists, preserving the distinct artistic style of the Illyrian region from over two thousand years ago.
