Struck in the decades surrounding the transition from the first century BC to the first century AD, this silver drachm originates from the Indo Scythian kingdom under King Azes. This ancient coinage is notable for its direct connection to the era of Christ, with issues minted before his birth, during his lifetime, and potentially even on the day of his birth. The coin showcases a bilingual design that reflects the cultural synthesis of the region. On the obverse, the ruler Azes is depicted on horseback, riding toward the right while holding a whip. This side features inscriptions in Greek lettering. The reverse presents a standing figure of Pallas facing right, holding a shield, a sceptre, and a torque, accompanied by legends written in the ancient Kharosthi script.
