Kingdom of Hungary Silver Denar Bela II (1131-41 AD) MS-62 NGC
This medieval silver coin transports observers back to twelfth-century Europe, originating from the Kingdom of Hungary during the rule of Bela II, who reigned from 1131 to 1141. Despite its incredible age, this small silver piece survives in an exceptional state of preservation, having been certified in Mint State 62 condition. The design of the denar features elegant geometric symmetry typical of the era. On the obverse, a prominent long cross extends outward, anchored by a distinct circular element at its very center. The reverse side complements this motif with a smaller, short cross enclosed within a central circle, which is itself surrounded by an outer ring. Containing approximately 0.04 troy ounces of silver, this denar offers a tangible connection to the early monetary systems of medieval Hungary. Its survival in such a high grade provides a rare, clear window into the craftsmanship of twelfth-century minters.
