Kingdom of Hungary Silver Denar Stephen II (1116-31 AD) MS-61 NGC

0.0400 troy oz 1116-31 AD MS-61 (NGC)

This medieval silver denar offers a physical connection to the early twelfth century, minted during the reign of King Stephen II of Hungary, who ruled from 1116 to 1131. Despite its immense age and the passage of nearly nine centuries, this specimen survived in exceptional condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 61. The design of the coin reflects the artistic and religious conventions of the medieval Hungarian state. On the obverse, a large, prominent cross dominates the central field. The reverse features a smaller cross enclosed within an inner circle, accented by four distinct wedges positioned between the arms of the cross, all surrounded by an outer circular border. Strikingly simple yet deeply symbolic of its era, this tiny silver piece represents the early coinage traditions of Eastern Europe.
