Struck during the era of Alexander III, famously known as Alexander the Great, this silver tetradrachm represents a classic era of ancient coinage. Issued as an early posthumous release between 336 and 323 BC, the coin serves as a tangible link to the vast Macedonian empire and the legendary ruler who shaped it. The obverse of the coin features a detailed profile of the mythical hero Heracles. Facing right, he is depicted wearing his signature headpiece fashioned from the skin of the Nemean lion. This powerful image of strength and divine ancestry was a central motif of Macedonian identity and authority. On the reverse, the design transitions to the king of the gods. Zeus is shown seated on his throne, facing left. In his hands, he holds a scepter and a perched eagle, symbols of his supreme power over the heavens and earth.
