This ancient silver drachm, struck after the lifetime of Alexander III (the Great), offers a fascinating window into the coinage of the Macedonian Empire. Weighing approximately 0.1369 troy ounces of silver, the coin represents a standard of currency that once circulated widely across the ancient world. The obverse side of the coin displays a detailed right-facing profile of the mythical hero Heracles, immediately recognizable by the lion skin draped over his head. This powerful imagery of strength and divine ancestry was a central motif of Macedonian authority. On the reverse, the supreme deity Zeus is depicted seated on a throne, facing left. He holds his traditional attributes, a scepter and a perched eagle. To the right of the seated god, the Greek inscription ALEXANDROY is visible, forever linking the coinage to the legacy of the famous ruler. This particular specimen has been preserved in Choice Very Fine condition, certified for its exceptional state of preservation.
